The Indian car market is pursued by car makers across the globe. The Indian car industry witnessed a steady growth from 1991 when there was the economic reform of trading in India.
Indian roads were dominated by Ambassadors and Premier Padminis till then. But in 1991 there was a sudden shift from its popular car Ambassador when other international car makers forayed into the Indian car market. There are many Asian car brands in India. But Suzuki, Honda and Hyundai can be regarded as the best three in the Indian car market.
Suzuki
Suzuki Motor Corporation began as weaving in 1909 by Michio Suzuki in 1909 in the village of Hamamatsu, Japan. The company started making prototypes of cars in 1937 and started producing cars by 1954. The company specializes in manufacturing motorcycles, All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), wheelchairs, compact automobiles, a variety of small combustion engines and marine engines.
Suzuki through its joint venture with Maruti Udyog in 1981 revolutionised the Indian car market scenario with its small, affordable and reliable car the Maruti 800. Maruti Suzuki has many models which have been extremely successful in the Indian car market.
Hyundai
Hyundai was established in 1947. The company has proved excellence not only as a car manufacturer but also as a semiconductor manufacturer and ship maker.
Hyundai Motor India Limited was formed in 1998. In a span of eleven years, the car company can boast of being the largest exporter and the second largest car manufacturer in India.
Hyundai Motor India markets over 34 variants of passenger cars across its seven models. The different models are the Santro, i10, i20, Accent, Verna, Sonata and the Tucson. Most of its models namely the i10, the Verna, the Santro, and the Accent has received several prestigious awards for its performance.
Honda
Honda has secured its place in India. The Japanese company has many things to offer starting from trucks, robots, jets and jet engines, lawn and garden equipment, scooters, aeronautical and other mobile technologies, electrical generators, ATV, and water crafts.
Honda Motor Company is the seventh largest car company in the world. Honda joint hands with Siel Limited to venture into the Indian car market in 1995. Currently, Honda sells five cars in India and they are the Jazz, Accord, City, CR-V and the Civic. Honda cars are very reliable, and very successful in India.
